The solar system and the movements of the planets in distinct cyclic patterns have fascinated humanity since the dawn of life on earth. The waxing and waning of the Moon and it’s concomitant or synchronistic effects on the ocean tides, is an obvious example of the correlation between one observable phenomena in the sky and another on the Earth. Astronomers and shamans of all cultures have keenly plotted the movements of the heavenly bodies, having seen the significance of their timing in relation to life events and this extends to the planets in our solar system as well as the backdrop of the fixed stars in their iconic constellations.

The full moon is just hours away as I write this, and may be upon us as this goes “to press” and it brings a partial lunar eclipse. This eclipse is part of the pair that included the total solar eclipse of two weeks ago during the new moon. However, this one is this week, so having studied astrology in my youth and interpreted horoscopes for the past few decades, I would like to give some insight into the upcoming event. Equinox – a time to find the balance
Today being the Equinox marks a time of transition for both hemispheres as we shift from one season to another. With the daylight and night so equally divided, it really symbolises a time for us to come to a sense of balance end equilibrium within ourselves.
It is of course a start of the new zodiacal season just as it was also an end. It is a crossing over, where the one meets the other. We say goodbye to whichever season had just gripped us recently. What a time of equipoise, as we pause to see our way forward in the reflection of what we leave behind.
Astrologically we are moving into Aries or the start of a new adventure, certainly a time to start afresh. Ironically it coincides with the full moon, which is more of a time of fulfillment, you would think. Full moon is a harvest time event, a time of culmination, and here it falls on our Equinox and symbolic Zodiac New Year; it leads to looking like an oracle for a big year ahead.
Wouldn’t it be sweet if this year was the year that it all went to the moon for all of us, you know what I mean, those all time highs, but wait I’m dreaming. We could call it a harvest year, a full moon year, the whole year could be like a full moon moment, and the moon could be the center of it. It’s all about to moon, in other words. But seriously, I think we may have to wait another year or two for that. I’ve become stoic about the wisdom in tolerating some things that may be bitter in the beginning but sweet in the end.
Long term investments are the way to go ultimately, that is the philosophy of those who make the most of their most precious investment, namely their human form of life and the three score years and ten, or the time you have which is the most deflationary commodity in existence.
Time is money and it’s on a major bull run by the day. Nobody can buy more time no matter how much fiat or crypto they own. No one has a premium on time. Time and tide, as the astrologers will tell you. It’s all cyclic, the moon affects the tides and with full moon upon us we can reap what we have sown, we can start seeing alpha, we can see some returns on our investments.
Similarly the yogi of old would renounce the world and turn within to connect with the supersoul called “Paramatama” in Sanskrit. They may leave behind family, career, identity or nationality, and eventually even the ego.
The ego is built upon the current physical and mental tool of perception. It’s all about perception. We are receiving input via our senses and interpreting according to the dna of our parents and their patterns. So our sense of self, or ego, molds itself around the body and mind we find ourselves with. You find yourself repeating the nature and patterns of your parents, your dna make you do a lot of what you do. So you think that is you. But the yogi eventually even disassociates from the body and mind or ego as anything to do with the original self.
Today we can find ourselves in this way, even if for a moment, as something transcendent, but even more than that, we can see beyond the veneer or persona or even body of the person we see opposite us, whoever they may be. The ancient Sanskrit classic Bhagavad Gita mentioned millennia ago:
विद्याविनयसंपन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि ।
शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः ॥ ५.१८ ॥
vidyā-vinaya-sampanne
brāhmaṇe gavi hastini
śuni caiva śva-pāke ca
paṇḍitāḥ sama-darśinaḥ
“The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle brāhmaṇa, a cow, an elephant, a dog and a dog-eater (outcaste).” *
Bhagavad Gita as it is by Swami A. C. Bhaktivedanta ch:5.18
The key phrase in this text is “equal vision”. Seeing beyond the superficial external shell or vehicle is very important in determining the way we behave toward others as well as the way in which we behave ourselves. And depending on that perception we can decide how to use our valuable time. In this sutra or mantra, the author describes a sage as someone who sees even beyond species, what to speak of class and tribe. If we realise that the spirit or spark of consciousness animating that body is equal to yours’ then you may further realize that the “Paramatma” or superoul is also resident there along with the spirit soul or “atma”. That’s what they mean when they say the body is a temple. The body houses the eternal consciousness temporarily. And consciousness is accompanied by superconsciousness or the divinity, depending on how you translate the Sanskrit terms.
Sanskrit is a complex language and very open to interpretation. It’s all about realization. To what degree have you realized, as opposed to theorised a state of consciousness. Sanskrit is not even used any more so how can we know just what these terms are alluding to. Well the texts talk about hearing from a “realized soul” that we should become a “self-realized soul”. That is the aim of life really, and the body and mind are our vehicle with which to do it, but then to be left behind, because that is not it. And whatever your interpretation may be, leave it we all do.
Learn to live knowing you’re soon going to die. Learn to lunge for that last ounce of water, that last lung of breath. Drink deeply the fountain of life as it pulses and pumps through our veins like a spring from the earth, a storm from the clouds, a bolt from the blue. But remember what a valuable opportunity it is to awaken new levels of consciousness that were there dormant all the time simply waiting for you to make that shift in perception.
